In 1999, he made his first appearance at the “24 Hours of Le Mans“ for Mercedes-Benz with the Team AMG and in 2000 he continued with the Mercedes powered Original Parts AMG Team, competing in the “German Touring Car Championship“ (DTM), where he finished 9th.
In 2001, Tiemann signed a three-year contract for Zakspeed/Forsythe racing for the “FedEx-Cart-Championship Series“. Due to financial problems of the team, his debut in the Cart-Series failed. Therefore, he decided to take part in the “V8-Star Championship“ where he finished 2nd. In addition, he was asked by Mercedes-Benz to substitute Bernd Maylaender in three races at the “German Touring Car Championship“ (DTM). Without any training time, he achieved an outstanding result finishing 8th, 4th and 3rd.
In 2002, he competed in the “Porsche Supercup“ for Manthey Racing, where he finished 9th in the championship. They also asked him to compete in three “Endurance races“ at the "Nürburgring/ Nordschleife" with their Manthey-Porsche GT3. Tiemann and his teammate won two out of the three races. Meantime he was asked once again to substitute Maylaender in the first round of the “DTM“ for Mercedes-Benz. He fought his way through from 19th to 7th position, before the stewart gave him a black flag for an open door.
The years of 2003 and 2004 Opel asked him to join their DTM Team as an Official Test- and Substitute driver. Further, he competed for Opel in the “4 hours race at the Nürburgring/Nordschleife“ and in “24 hours race of Nürburgring/ Nordschleife“. Together with his teammates, they won both races. In 2004 Tiemann and his team tried to defend their title at the “24 hours Race of Nürburgring/ Nordschleife“, but in the end finished 10th after fighting their way up more than 65 positions. Tiemann set the fastest time of all participants.
In 2005, he raced the “24 hours Race of Nürburgring/ Nordschleife“ with Manthey Racing. Together with the Porsche Worksdrivers they led the race for 17 hours, but after a missshift ended up 9th. Tiemann was also invited to drive two 6 hour Races in the “Grand American Rolex Series“ together with Jim Matthew and Guy Smith in a Pontiac/Riley Daytona Prototype. Beeing able to race with the frontrunners in the championship, he once again showed his competetive driving skills. His longterm experience within racing was also being sought after by the European A-Level Racing Team, who asked him to drive as well as to develop their Porsche GT1 in the “Le Mans Endurance Series“.
