In 1992, aged 18, Marcel Tiemann began his formal racing career by finishing top of his class at the “ADAC racing school“ which earned him a spot in the “ADAC-Formula Junior Series". In order to gain more experience he also decided to participate in the “Formula König" series in Germany. After winning top honors at the “Pilot Elf Driving School", he made his entry into the “German Formula Renault Series" as a “Pilot Elf". He also raced in the “European Formula Renault Championship", where he finished 2nd and 3nd in the german round.
In 1994 he won his first career championship at the age of 22 in the “German Formula Renault Series“
In 1995, he decided to pursue racing as a career and raced in the “German Formula 3 Championship“.
In 1996 he quickly captured a victory in in the “Formula 3 Grand Prix of Monaco“. Overall, he finished 4th in the “German Formula 3 Championship“.
In the season of 1997, Tiemann competed in the “FIA-GT Championship“ for Mercedes-Benz and Team-AMG. Sharing car with Alessandro Nannini, they finished 4th in the championship.
In 1998 Tiemann competed once again in the "FIA-GT Championship" with Team Persson and finished 6th.
